I've determined that I'm very much a fan... I spent this entire weekend going back and forth between games and shows to cheer on my besties, and my voice is rightfully hoarse because of it. Friday night was the first time I saw the Fall Theatre Production: The Secret Garden, the Musical! Ahhh, there are not enough words in the English language to express how good it was and how much I enjoyed it. My friend Ebet was Martha, and I literally got goosebumps every time she was on stage. She is such a fabulous actress, even though she wasn't really acting... she is so much like her character, and she was totally in her element. She made me laugh in the first half and made me bawl my eyes out in the second half because her solo was so emotional and powerful and it just made my life. I'm so proud of that girl. The show was amazing overall, too- so many people put in so much hard work to make it perfect, and I am in awe over how incredible it was. I went last night and this afternoon, too, and was still bowled over every time because it was just that good.
Saturday afternoon was also the last home soccer game of the season; we lost to Roanoke 3-0. It wasn't as bad as it could have been because Seanne is such an incredible goalie. But I miss winning... I wish we had an offense without Sierra. Actually, I wish Sierra was well enough to play. It just isn't the same without her. I love cheering for Seanne and Ebet and Lindsay and Aly and Ashdown and the whole team, but I miss Sierra's badass-ness on the field :( There are two more games left in the season this week: Hollins and Emory & Henry, who both have records similar to our own, so there's still a possibility that we may win or at least tie. I want so badly to go to the Hollins game, but I can't find anyone to ride with me because it's on a school day... apparently, Hollins is just as friendly as Randolph was last weekend, and I feel like I need to be there to counteract some of that negativity, but I don't want to go into that negativity by myself, either. And as for Saturday's game at Emory and Henry, it's just too far away :( But overall, it's been a better season than the past two... I'll definitely miss the seniors we're losing this year, but I'm looking forward to seeing Seanne, Sierra, and co. step into those leadership positions next year :)
Today was also the lacrosse team's playday- they invited some teams to come for a kind of scrimmage thing. SBC won 3 of their 4 games, and watching Seanne be super-speedy with getting the ball down the field and scoring in mere seconds is so exciting. Their real season doesn't start until the spring, but I'll be there to support them then. I still don't understand that game at ALL, but I'm hoping to learn a bit more this season.
I redboxed two movies Friday: Babies and How to Train Your Dragon. Babies was so freaking cute: I watched it with Mary and Ebet, and we had the most fun giggling at the adorableness and providing our own commentary/dialogue. Of course, How to Train Your Dragon is incredible; Toothless may be one of my favorite characters ever, right up there with Rhett Butler, Edward Cullen, and Mr. Darcy. Strange company, I know... but Toothless is just so expressive, and I love the fact that animation (particularly CG animation) has progressed to the point where emotions can be so real and so touching that they make an un-human character seem human. It's pretty much awesome.
Midterms are going well... I just turned in two midterm papers last week, which took a lot of stress off of me. I need to get started on my art history take-home exam, and my HEL midterm is on Tuesday. I feel pretty good about both of them. We start registration for spring classes soon. They've dropped and added some classes from the schedule suddenly, but hopefully that's going to work out for the best. I'm hoping to take the physical geography lab and an anthropology course (Peoples and Cultures of the Middle East... should be very enlightening) to finish up my GenEd requirements. I'll also be able to take an education course (Models of Teaching with my favorite educ. professor), which I wasn't going to be able to do until they changed the time of the lab I need. Then my fun classes for my major are going to be Contemporary Drama (a theater course that will count for English, I hope), Gothic Worlds (gothic novels + films? HECK YES), and Arthurian Tradition (just added, with my favorite prof... CAN'T WAIT). I'm still weighing the pros/cons of Old English Language and Literature, which is also with my favorite prof.... we'd learn to speak Old English, but it would put me at course overload, and it really wouldn't count toward anything for me. So we'll see... nevertheless, it's looking like it's going to be a pretty great junior year all around :)
